Remember What Your Momma Said When Selling Your Home

Your momma said

We all have personal ‘momma’ sayings ingrained in our heads during our years of growing up. Surprisingly, these same sayings apply during the sale of your home.

“Wash up, and don’t forget to wash behind your ears.”

Good curb appeal on the outside of your home means your property is enticing and attractive. Take a good look at your house- if it looks a bit drab and dingy, it’s because there is accumulated grime and dust. Rent a power washer and rinse off that dirt. Clean all sides of your home including your roof, siding, doors, and windows. Move on to the sidewalks and driveway. Last of all, do a quick washing of any yard art and the mailbox.

“Go get dressed, and put on something nice.”

You want to wear your best outfit when wooing homebuyers. Keep the grass cut and trimmed and the landscaping neat. Trim any needed bushes so buyers can see your magnificent house. Spiff up the front entrance with flowers and a freshly painted door.

“Sit up straight, and mind your manners.”

Keep your home ready for buyers to come and view it. Water the gardens and planters every day to keep plants healthy and flowering. Paint any needed trim and keep the gutters free of debris. Sweep the sidewalks and driveway. If you have pets, keep any pet poo out of the yard.

“Do it because I said so, and don’t talk back.”

Momma was the authority when we were young. Your realtor is now the same- an authority on what sells and what doesn’t. Listen to him/her. Another home authority is a professional home stager. Take a look at how a home stager prepares the outside of a home for sale. If your authorities give suggestions and advice, do what they say. Your realtor is an expert on what makes a quick sale. If you trust her to sell your home, trust her when she tells you what you need to do to sell your home at the best price.

Follow this advice and you’ll thank your momma for selling your home quickly at top dollar.
